ENERGY-MY VISION LAUNCHED

Vice-President John Dramani Mahama has called on the Energy commission to allocate more of the energy fund towards applied renewable energy research.

This, he said would help address the deficit in energy supply and provide sustainable energy to drive the nation’s development.

Vice President Mahama made this call yesterday when he launched the book, “Energy- My Vision” in Accra.

The book is a culmination of presentations made by flag bearers in the 2008 General Elections at the Flag bearers on Energy (FoE) special seminar held at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

“Energy-My Vision” is a 91 page book compiled by the Energy Center of KNUST and was published by the University Printing Press, KNUST.

The Foreword of the book was written by Prof. Kwasi Kwafo Adarkwa, Vice-Chancellor of KNUST.

The book features the submissions made by the various political aspirants; Dr. Edward Mahama, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, John Dramani Mahama who represented then flag bearer John Evans Atta Mills and Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo.

Some of the topics captured in the book include Electricity Infrastructure and Supply, Renewable Energy Technologies, Petroleum infrastructure and Supply.
These are the views that have been captured in the book for the readership of the general public.

Launching the book, the Vice President urged the Fellows and Associates of the Energy Center, KNUST to institutionalize the FoE so that 2012 and beyond the seminar will become one of the major landmarks in the nation’s political discourse.

“With Ghana about to become a significant oil and gas producing country, Government wants to see Universities and Polytechnics building the necessary capacity for the technical capability and management of our indigenous energy resources so that we grow to become a model of the socio-economic and technological prosperity in Africa.” he added.

In a speech read on his behalf by Mr. Kweku Awotwi, Chief Executive Officer of the Volta River Authority (VRA) Dr. Joe Oteng-Adjei, Minister for Energy commended the Energy Center of the KNUST for the bold step it had taken by organizing the seminar.

He said it should be a model for other universities in Ghana and Africa to follow.

The Minister for Energy further said as the book contains the thoughts of all the presidential aspirants the book will offer academics, civil society activists, private business men and women a resource base to formulate policy.

Dr. Oteng-Adjei said the government is working around the clock to fulfill all the promises it made to Ghanaians at the seminar.

Present at the launch were Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom and Dr. Edward Mahama two of the flag bearers of the 2008 general elections.
